Current Areas of Study
RADARSAT CONSTELLATION SERIES
Proposed successor to the Canadian RADARSAT Constellation Mission, RCS includes 12 satellites in two orbital planes, four launch phases and a lean and diversified supply chain. Exploiting digital beamforming techniques, RCS will provide enhanced resolution and wide area coverage, 2-day and 6 hour coherent change detection, moving target indication, and pursuit interferometry.
RCM+
Compared to other radar payloads, RCM+ features more transmit power, a larger antenna with more rows and columns, moving target indication, and hybrid analog+digital beamforming. Though much more capable than competing concepts, ambition is tempered by the need to guarantee continuity with the existing constellation.
HIGH POWER DIGITAL RADAR
With much higher power, real-time on-board imaging and data exploitation, and more agile beamforming, HPDR is a quantum step forward in performance. HPDR will support a lower aspect ratio antenna with more phase centres, and implement optimal space-time filtering.
MARINE AND LAND APPLICATION SCIENCE
From SAR hurricane tracking, to small target detection to environmental monitoring - emerging applications will depend upon next level sensor performance. Modelling will support research to pinpoint key trade-offs which will optimize wide area surveillance.
